For decades, Dr. Deanna Marie Hall found herself cast as the dependable second-in-command. “I’ve always been the sidekick,” she reflects. Whether guiding others like Dr. Watson, standing loyally beside as Robin, or offering unshakable support like Chewbacca, she knew her role well. But now, she’s rewriting her story. “I want to be the main character.”
A respected voice in veterans’ advocacy, Dr. Hall currently educates military families on their VA benefits. Yet, her ambitions reach far beyond government service. A survivor of trauma and a woman leader with a message to share, she’s building a new legacy—as a motivational speaker determined to make her voice heard.
From Confusion to Clarity
Despite her drive, the journey to personal branding wasn’t straightforward. “With so many starting points, I didn’t know where to begin,” she recalls. What changed? Asking for help. She sought experts in branding and communications to guide her in shaping a public speaking career that truly reflects her values and experiences.
This act of seeking help—often hard for those accustomed to being the helper—marked a turning point. “It was about learning to step back and listen, even to myself.”
The Mindset That Moves Mountains
Dr. Hall attributes her growth to powerful internal work. “I had to rethink the negative thoughts in my head and replace them with positive ones.” Each morning begins not with a phone screen, but with mindful stillness. “Just be still and think about today,” she advises.
She emphasizes that real mindset shifts require consistent, internal dialogue. Her practice includes preparing emotionally for the day ahead, knowing that some people you meet will act from their own pain. “Respond in kindness. Give grace.”
The Fuel Behind the Fire
When she’s not preparing speeches or writing her first book, Dr. Hall turns to joy and balance. Her Golden Doodle, Cleopatra, plays an unlikely but vital role in her wellness. “She reminds me to take breaks. Literally pulls me away from the computer.”
Her mother, too, remains a source of love and perspective. Their mother-daughter weekend escapes are simple but rich in meaning. “Just talk and laugh. Like her and her mom used to do.”
Looking Ahead: A Voice Ready to Echo
Though still establishing her public-facing brand, Dr. Hall is already making bold moves. She’s joined Toastmasters in Fort Myers, scheduled to speak at the Lehigh Acres Women’s Club in November, and committed to finishing her book by year’s end.
Her excitement is contagious, her journey refreshingly honest. “I’m figuring out technology, one WhatsApp misfire at a time,” she laughs.
As she builds her presence from the ground up, one thing is clear: Dr. Deanna Marie Hall is no longer standing behind anyone. She’s leading, inspiring, and owning her stage.
