Inicio Wellness: The Female Founders Rewriting the Rules of Healthcare

In an industry dominated by corporate medicine and quick fixes, nurse practitioners Brittany Delaney and Chrissy Akins are proving that empathy and innovation can coexist. Their company, Inicio Wellness, is reshaping healthcare—one patient at a time.

A Leap of Faith

The idea took root while both women were managing clinics under a major corporate group. They excelled at growth and patient satisfaction, but something felt off.

“We were helping build someone else’s dream,” says Akins. “We wanted to build our own—and give patients better care in the process.”

That conviction led them to launch Inicio Wellness, a name that means “a new beginning.” It reflected not only their fresh professional start but their commitment to redefining wellness for their patients.

The Challenge of Building From Scratch

Transitioning from nurse to entrepreneur was daunting. “We knew how to care for patients,” says Delaney, “but not how to run a business.”

They immersed themselves in research, tackled legal hurdles, and spent nights designing business plans. Their secret weapon was persistence—and community.

“Joining the Chamber of Commerce was a turning point,” Akins explains. “They not only helped us market but gave us confidence and resources.”

Soon, referrals poured in. “The best marketing is listening,” Delaney adds. “Patients notice when you actually care.”

The Power of Mentorship

One of the clinic’s most transformative moments came with the arrival of Dr. Amir Baluch, their supervising physician. An experienced entrepreneur, Baluch became their mentor, offering insights far beyond medical oversight.

“He’s done so much in business, real estate, and medicine,” says Akins. “His mentorship showed us what’s possible.”

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Their guidance for others starting out is simple:

  • Lead with care, not competition. Patients remember compassion more than credentials.
  • Outsource early. Focus on what you do best—delegate the rest.
  • Tell your story. Authenticity builds connection and trust.

Managing Growth and Avoiding Burnout

Balancing entrepreneurship with caregiving isn’t easy. Delaney admits, “You can’t just turn off caring at 5 p.m.” To prevent burnout, they’ve automated systems, hired virtual staff, and continued refining workflows.

The Future of Wellness

Now expanding into Utah, Inicio Wellness plans to integrate DNA-based medicine and wellness analytics through partnerships like InsideTracker. Their mission: make personalized healthcare accessible nationwide.

“We’re not just growing a business,” Delaney reflects. “We’re building a movement—one that puts humanity back into healthcare.”
