Fitness Author Richard H Webb Redefines Being Fit Over 50

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard H Webb.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

I’m an average who went to college and started working in technology back in the late 80’s. I had always kept in shape, but when I was 43 I met a couple of high school friends and we challenged ourselves to do something out of our comfort zone. The two decided on the challenge for the one. Mine was to compete in a bodybuilding competition within 12 months. I did it, and while I finished last in the Master’s Division (age 40-49) I did not embarrass myself. Leading up to this competition, I was spending 16+ hours per week in the gym. I knew there had to be a better method for this madness, so I took the next 3 years off and researched and did trial and error on my diet and workouts. I did all this while working in technology full time and raising two kids with my wife. I came up with a more efficient way to workout combined with an improved food regiment that allowed me to get better results working out only 4 hours per week. Yeah, that’s a 75% savings in time. I had to write about this, so I published “Fat Burning Secrets: Efficiency in Fitness”. Now the workouts and food regiment are my lifestyle. I wanted to share this with everybody, because the target audience is for the busy person (any sex or age) who wishes to get and stay in shape but cannot spend hours in the gym.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Time. Freedom of my time was still a challenge. I worked in technology long before the idea of work-life balance was a thing. Going to an office provided challenges for food choices as well as time to exercise. By the time I finished my workday, I would go to the gym to get my workout in. This was not working, so I had to change my routine where I worked out first thing in the morning. I was working out by 5 AM. And when I hear someone say that I just had good genetics to compete, I shrug it off. This is not true. I am the way I am by choice, but my genetics are not perfect especially for a bodybuilder. I have a very short torso and wide hips. That hit me after one of my comps where I placed 2nd in the Master’s Division my son said, “Dad, I just don’t think they’re looking for your body type. “ He was right, my waist is so short, that I had a 4-pack instead of a 6-pack, but I was still determined to continue.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

On my website, I offer health hacks with my book, an online course, “Diet Like A Bodybuilder”, and custom and personalized affirmations. The online course is designed to help people eat to burn fat like bodybuilder’s do but based on their body type, age and current activity level. Nobody knows how to eat to burn fat like a bodybuilder. The first chapter in “Fat Burning Secrets” focuses not on the body, but rather on getting your mindset correct. The body will not go where the mind does not want to. For this reason people can go to my site and order a customized affirmation sound track, give us their goals, select their music, choose if they wish the affirmations to be subliminal or not, and we provide the end product. Visualization and affirmations played a big part in my first win on Muscle Beach. For six months I said to myself, “I’m so proud to have won on the famed Muscle Beach stage.” I also envisioned myself holding the first place trophy in the air on stage. It worked. I want to provide inspiration and the tools for others to achieve their goals. Again, I used it for bodybuilding in this case, but I use the same to achieve my other goals. Mind over matter.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

First, learn to meditate! Also, be clear about what you want. Write down your goals and review them at least once per day. Spend time every day visualizing yourself being successful in each goal. Think about the feeling you have in the success of each goal. In short, believe that you’ve already achieved the goal. It’s that feeling that sends out the right energy. Finally, look for the opportunities that will come your way, because if you can get yourself to believe in yourself and that you’ve already achieved these goals the opportunities will come to you. I don’t believe in coincidence, so watch for the opportunities.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success is living a life of purpose where I am in full control of my life and direction rather than reacting to my environment and letting it dictate my course.

What’s next for you?

I continue to educate myself and learn from others so I can expand my offering on my website to help others be a better version of themselves.

Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?
