Armando Martínez, known as El Cantaclaro de Venezuela, continues to consolidate his position as one of the most emblematic voices of llanera music. With a career spanning more than four decades, Martínez has taken joropo, one of the most traditional musical genres of Venezuela, to national and international stages, highlighting his powerful and clear voice that has made him a living legend of Creole music.
Martínez, a native of Valle de la Pascua, Guárico, was born on December 31, 1957, and from a very young age he showed his passion for music. His career began in the choir of the Instituto Universitario de Tecnología de los Llanos, under the tutelage of Professor José Oscar Guerra. His talent was evident when he obtained second place in the National Festival of Llanera Music “Panoja de Oro,” which marked the beginning of a successful career.
Known for his powerful performance and his ability to move audiences, Armando Martínez has accumulated important awards, including the Florentino de Oro (1987), Venus de la Prensa, Mara de Oro, Dos de Oro and many other awards that highlight his contribution to llanera music.
Among his most remembered hits are iconic songs such as Déjate Querer, Nadie te Querrá Igual, Desde que te estoy amando, and El gabán coleador, which have marked a milestone in Venezuelan music. Martínez has managed to keep joropo alive through collaborations and tributes to great figures such as Cheo Hernández Prisco and Reynaldo Armas.
Today, he remains a key figure in the Venezuelan music scene, performing at fairs, criollo shows and cultural events, both in Venezuela and Colombia. His musical legacy lives on, and his name continues to be synonymous with pride for Venezuelan folklore.
