For many actors, receiving a major role offer represents a moment of validation. The work, recognition and financial opportunity can make accepting it seem like an obvious decision.
Erin Jo Harris has learned that the right answer is sometimes no.
The actress, signed songwriter and certified chaplain has declined significant acting roles and bookings because the projects did not align with her personal mission to uplift culture. Even when the compensation was attractive, Harris found greater satisfaction in protecting the principles that guide her work.
Her approach has not prevented her from reaching meaningful career milestones.
In May 2026, Harris completed filming her second leading feature film role within two years, starring in the faith based family drama Turning Point in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Finding Success Without Compromising Convictions
Entertainment careers often depend on relationships, timing and opportunities that cannot be easily predicted. For Harris, navigating that uncertainty has required developing a clear understanding of the work she wants to pursue.
She has chosen to measure professional opportunities against her values rather than their immediate financial rewards.
Passing on a promising role can carry real consequences. There is no guarantee that another offer will arrive quickly, particularly in an industry where competition is constant.
Still, Harris considers the experience of declining unsuitable work more grounding and rewarding than accepting an opportunity that requires compromising her integrity.
“In an industry full of ambiguity and gatekeepers, I’ve found the best way to ‘make it’ is truly to put God first and make Him your business partner, agent and manager,” Harris said.
Her faith, she explains, has helped sustain her commitment to acting through periods of uncertainty and unexpected opportunity.
A Film That Reflects Her Mission
Harris’ latest project explores redemption, family relationships and the difference between “playing church” and genuinely following Jesus.
Turning Point stars Harris alongside Kaiwi Lyman. Billy Crone and John Prescott wrote the screenplay, with Prescott directing and Get a Life Media producing.
The film was more than a decade in the making, bringing together an international cast and crew for its Las Vegas production.
Harris recalls numerous unexpected connections and moments of what she describes as divine orchestration throughout the experience.
For an actress committed to choosing projects that reflect her beliefs, participating in the film offered an opportunity to bring her professional work and personal convictions into closer alignment.
Looking Beyond the Next Acting Credit
Harris’ creative interests extend into music and ministry. As a songwriter and chaplain, she sees artistic expression as a way to influence culture and encourage personal healing.
She describes herself as a “Heaven Permaculturist,” reflecting her desire to cultivate creative environments rooted in faith and grace.
While awaiting the release of Turning Point, Harris is taking a break to develop a music related feature film set in the 1970s.
The project offers a new creative direction while allowing her to continue working within the principles that have shaped her career.
Two leading feature roles in two years suggest growing momentum. Yet Harris’ approach offers another measure of professional maturity: the ability to recognize when an opportunity, regardless of its potential rewards, is not worth pursuing.
For her, a successful career must remain one she can believe in.
