Horses have been companions of humans since time immemorial. These majestic animals have been used for various purposes, however, beyond their usefulness, there is a special connection between horses and the people who love them. Francisco José Herrera, a prominent horse riding instructor, has dedicated his life to fostering that connection and teaching his students to love and respect these animals.
From a very young age he showed a deep interest in horses. He grew up in a family that also loved horses and spent most of his free time learning more about the discipline with his father who was a professional rider and was always surrounded by these majestic animals. As he grew older, his love for horses became even stronger and he decided that he wanted to share his passion with others through teaching horsemanship.
What sets Herrera apart as an instructor is his unique approach and teaching philosophy. Rather than focusing solely on horse riding techniques, he believes it is essential to develop a relationship of trust and mutual respect between rider and animal. According to Francisco “it is not just about valuing the horse, but about understanding it and establishing fluid communication with it” and to achieve this, he emphasizes the importance of learning to read the horse’s body language and respond appropriately. He also emphasizes the need to establish an adequate care and feeding routine for his well-being.
While the Ecuadorian rider emphasizes the importance of establishing a personal bond with the horse, he is also a master in the art of horseback riding. He teaches his students proper riding techniques, such as proper body position, balance, and hand and leg coordination. In addition, he teaches them to perform different types of movements and jumps with elegance and precision.
