The System Couldn’t Make Me Another One Of It’s Victims

Today we’d like to introduce you to SHIVA SOUL LIT.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

Savannah GA Chatham County 2004. I was placed in the system as a teenager for having disagreements at home with my mother and I didn’t understand why. I didn’t know why I had warrants out for my arrest. I didn’t understand the concept of having to go to group homes when arguments broke out or my mother just didn’t feel like dealing with me. I didn’t understand why we lived in such a nice neighborhood, but I wasn’t treated the same as the mothers treated their children on my block. You just can tell when a child comes from a structured home because they aren’t out trying to get validation from others. I felt that since we had the home that it should’ve been loving. It made me a rebel and have a desire to live in hood communities. I couldn’t understand a lot of things back then but as I started writing raps and poems, the demand for my poems in juvenile brought out my purpose. I mean people had me write poems to their mothers, boyfriends and whoever because they couldn’t do it themselves. Writing my stories and performing them in juvi lit something inside of me. It was always easy for me to write my feelings or stories out in rhymes which made it easier for me to write songs. No metaphors back then just real stories. Of course I had to work harder to heal and become contributing adults to society. I’m no longer a victim.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

I grew up thinking that if I had no mother or a struggling mother, maybe my life would’ve been different. I know my purpose now but back then I thought that what I was doing was normal and our misunderstandings at home led to my anger and aggression. For example, I wasn’t a gang member, I didn’t rob; drugs, cigarettes’ and alcohol weren’t my thing. I just wanted to hang out with my friends outside of school, maintain my job and play basketball/band which consisted of me being out past my curfew. When I was 15 I had been locked up in Savannah GA over 20 times. Exposed to everything that I was “not” at the time including gangs. I grew fascinated with the gang and hood lifestyle. Until I was 9, I lived with my grandmother in the hood (Dallas Texas) and I claimed that hood as my projects “Monaghan Ct.” I did not feel validated at home with my mom. Around my friends and certain gang members I felt very validated. It felt real and I was more connected in that culture. I could get any girl I wanted and that was my distraction outside of working, music and band. Most of my charges consisted of “breaking curfew” or “violation of probation” which could come from disobeying my mother since that was something in my terms and conditions of probation. Anytime my mom called, there was a warrant placed and that made me see her as evil.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

I’m an artist. I write songs from the heart and for entertainment. I learned the music industry and how to become successful in it as a young adult through trial and error. My life and my stories are my products and services. I love money and I’m not scared of it. I walk in my purpose meaning no one can compete with my sole purpose. My energy is my currency returning to me. I understand the process, I flow in motion. I work hard at creating content. I force nothing. Doors open for me everyday. I take all of my opportunities, prioritize and utilize them when needed. I am needed by many teens and young adults going through the same things or similar to what I’ve been through. I understand my niche in the Rock/Hip-Hop/Emo/Trap community. I am a train that will keep moving regardless of obstacles thrown. I see the bigger picture and understand the importance on having a strong team….even if that only starts with myself at first.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Take full responsibility for your life and everything that happens to you. Don’t be/stay the victim. Your wealth will flow in abundance and you will achieve everything you desire and put forth the real work for.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

A peace of mind. A happy family to love and live with. A thriving community that benefits from my products and services. Being demanded worldwide for the power and healing that I bring to the table.

What’s next for you?
